About

Limia is a project by the artist Elara Elvira.

Elara Elvira (Vigo, Spain 1984) is a queer artist based in Santiago de Compostela, one of the most well preserved medieval towns in Galicia. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona (UB) and a Master's Degree in Medieval European Studies in Santiago de Compostela's University (USC). As an artist and medievalist, her work is situated at an intersection between contemporary art, anthropology and historical research.

The Limia project draws inspiration from traditions, history, old magic, and craftsmanship to create unique pieces that preserve and honor the symbolic worlds of folklore. Rooted in thorough research in history and ethnography, the artist aims to transform these insights into apotropaic objects designed for everyday use as amulets. Each piece is crafted with care and deep respect for the sacred symbols of the diverse cultures, reflecting a slow, thoughtful, and deliberate creative process.

In addition to its artistic focus, Limia also aims to be a dissemination project. Through social media and other off-line activities, the artist shares her researches and creative journey, helping to raise awareness about the rich history and symbolism behind each piece.
